On this project, we used a wide range of products from the start of a new build house all the way through to finished plastered product.
Once the roof and staircase had been installed, the Invicta Construction Finishes team were the next to enter the property, ultimately turning these houses into crisp, clean and sharp plastered homes for our Client. Our metal stud team did all the first fix walling which involved building from a drawing using British gypsum C stud. We set our stud work centres at 400mm and built all the walls, timber-lined the door casings, sparred across to any floor joists then left it for first fix electrical, plumbing and joinery works.
At Invicta we don’t only carry out plaster boarding and skimming (plastering walls in gypsum finish plaster) as you see with some companies. Our team is the real deal, a crew assembled to be the best we can be. Our team plaster boards, skims, first fix metal studs and renders. This means that, at Navigation Point, we can have as many as three phases ongoing at any one time of first and second fix plastering.
The team went into an empty first fixed property, cleared out everything in their way and set about boarding the walls nice and plumb (plastering talk for straight). Once they had set their walls out and cleared any plaster board left over into the correct skips provided, they then started with the final and most important phase, the skimming. Skimming for me is a massively underrated and undervalued trade. It’s an art form getting something completely wet like cream and making it into smooth like glass fresh walls ready to paint.
The team will start at the top floor of a house and work their way down removing all the mess with them as they go, leaving a clean house ready for whichever second fix trade is coming after us.
I have purposely mentioned cleaning the houses because, with the best will in the world, you can’t create fantastic finishes without a little mess, but we always make sure that we clean up after ourselves.
The house then had a mist coat applied by the decorators and we send our contracts manager in to check for any missed spots. Again, this is something that we feel is necessary so that we can deliver the best product available. Once we are happy the house can then be finished by the other trades.
