Job Title: Roundhey Leeds.
Product: CorkSol spray cork coating
Colour: Ivory
Problem: Old cracked render with a flaky top painted coat that looks ugly and uninviting, the other main issue with this particular job was the location of the property. The property is directly at the side of a very busy high street, with lots of foot traffic and customers in and out of the shop below. Why was this such an issue? Because it made it impossible to knock off all the old render without, closing the shop – costing the tenant their income and having to inform the highways and close the footpath.
Solution: Was to partly take out the bad areas of render, gently passing it down the scaffolding which was also wrapped in hessian mesh to prevent dust blowing onto the street, patch and repair those areas and spray the building with Corksol Spray cork coating. This would give the building a fresh new look whilst also taking care of the minor cracks, and bad areas.
Your options for old render are:
Repainting is the cheapest option. Not only is the low price point a benefit, but it is also a quick and relatively easy process. It will cover any marks and cracks for the time being and improve the appearance of the property. Paint also comes in a huge range of colours, so you will not be short of choice and can colour your home exactly how you like.
So, what can go wrong? Re-painting your render does not last very long. Within a few years, you’ll need to add another lick of paint to your walls. On top of that, it doesn’t cure underlying issues like cracks, nor does it provide any additional benefits like heat and noise resistance.
Re-rendering the property could be done in normal circumstances but it wasn’t an option in this case. To re-render your property, the old render must be stripped. This will remove all the cracks, ageing and stains and refresh the look of your home. Like paint, there is a wide range of colours available with render giving you the freedom to colour your house as you please.
Render has a much longer lifespan than paint and should last a few years before it begins to crack and stain.
The downside of a re-render is that it is the most expensive solution and requires the longest process. The current render must be stripped prior to a re-render, making it a lengthy and expensive solution. Many traditional renders also are not flexible, so cracking is likely to happen again, but not quite as fast as with paint.
Over spraying this property and ones like it with Cork spray coating has many more benefits, not only does not require it to be hacked off, but it provides the property with a fresh new modern look that will:
- Be Crack Resistant
- Improve Thermal value by 30% – reducing heating bills
- Fire Rated to Euro Cat B
- Acoustic rated to 38DB
- Weather and salt resistant – product sheds water and demonstrated long lasting resistance to sea salts in the air
- Sustainability
Cork spray coatings are really the ultimate solution for cracked tired and aged render, much easier installation process, this can also be cheaper in the long run for clients. There are not as many maintenance costs with cork spray plus the bonus of the reducing the heating costs to your home or property.
